Although Marine Expert was incorporated in 1993, it really only started its operations in 1995.  Back then, it was sponsored by and was exclusive to Lombard Canada, later followed by Optimum General and Aviva Canada.

The mission initially was to tap into the rapidly growing marine pleasure watercraft market by using an innovative software program called SAM that provided speedy quotes and policy issuance on a complex and tough class of business.

After having achieved tremendous success in Quebec, the Marine Expert product was introduced to the Ontario market in 1998 through the HUB Group.  In 2001, the Marine Expert product was exclusively distributed in Ontario by its sister company, ELCO Insurance Brokers Inc. (a newly created affiliate of ELCO Insurance Corporation). 

Since then, the mission has changed.  Marine Expert Inc. has become the largest writer of marine pleasure watercraft business in the country, holding over 35,000 policies, and is continually striving for excellence in service as well as the quality of its product.  Today the product is distributed in Ontario by McLean & Dickey Ltd. under an exclusive long-term arrangement.  All Marine Expert policies are secured by Lombard Canada and Jevco Insurance Company, both of which are A rated insurance companies in Canada.
